Salmon and Sea Trout Fishing
Fordie rods on the Lochlane and Laggan stretch of the River Earn in Scotland:

- River Earn, between Comrie and Crieff, in the picturesque Strathearn valley.

Fishing Details:
- Beats: Fordie rods are available for use throughout the season. (Check with the office for availability.)
- The Lochlane and Laggan stretch offers 2 miles of double bank fishing and 0.3 miles of single bank. It is divided into four beats, each accommodating three rods, with a rotation schedule allowing anglers to experience different parts of the beat throughout the week.
Fishing Season:
- Salmon and Sea Trout: February 1st to October 31st (no fishing on Sundays).
- Whilst we encourage Catch and Release of all species (except Rainbows), the River Earn is categorised as a grade 3 by the Scottish fishing authorities for 2025, which makes the retention of any Salmon, for any reason, a criminal offence. So all Salmon must be returned, whatever the circumstances, dead or alive. Lochlane and Laggan fishing adopt an Autumn conservation policy for Sea Trout and cease fishing for them at the end of August.
Facilities:
- Each beat has a charming fishing hut for anglers' comfort.
What to Expect:
- Salmon: The River Earn sees a good run of salmon, particularly in the autumn months from early September throughout October. Spring salmon can also be caught, with notable catches reported in past opening days.
- Sea Trout: There's a decent run of sea trout starting from late May, which can be an exciting alternative to salmon fishing.
- Tranquillity: The area is known for its serene environment, ideal for those seeking peace while fishing.
Access:
- Good access to many pools, making them easily reachable.
- Wading is generally easy, suitable for anglers of all levels.
Permits and Regulations:
- Fishing is free for residents at Fordie. (If rods are available)
- Fishing permits are required for non-residents. These can be obtained from the Fordie Office.

- Traditional barbless Flies: Greenwell Glory, Invicta wet fly, Black Pinnel, Bibio. Sedge. Daddy Longlegs

- Fishing is free to those who are staying on site.
- Daily Permits Available for non-residents:
- Eco-friendly Practices: We promote barbless hooks and catch and release to preserve the natural fish populations, though you're welcome to keep one for a traditional Scottish meal.
